Hey there Steindom fans! Wait, make that CARDINAL fans!!! I know, it's been a while. We haven't been putting up too much content lately, but that's all about to change. We're settling into parenthood and boy, do I have a lot to blog about...
But first thing's first. Let's talk about the Birds! The Cardinals could win it all tonight, for the first time since 1982. I was two years old then! It's an exciting night. Well, unless it keeps raining...in which case, it'll be a night of anticipation.
I wouldn't be a superfan if I didn't blog about the Cardinals. But I'm not just a superfan...I'm a supp-erfan! Suppan is a great pitcher and a wonderful Catholic (did you catch the commercial last night urging all superfans to vote NO on Amendment 2?), and last night was quite the exciting game. Let's hope Weaver can pull it out tonight for the win of all wins!
You know, a lot of people have been calling the Cardinals the underdogs. But let's stop pointing at the month of September and look at the big picture. The Cardinals are not the underdogs. They had amazing record all year, and their slide in September was mainly due to injuries. Pulling back even farther, the Cardinals are in the postseason for the third year in a row...and in the World Series for the second time in two years. Our number is up. Who's the underdog?
I have to list some of my playoff favorites. The Cardinals have really pulled out their best this postseason, and that's why they're poised to win the championship title. But first, I have to say, the Cardinals really stuck it to everyone who voted against them in our NLCS poll. Who voted for the Cubs? I have to assume they haven't watched a baseball game this whole year.
My personal faves:
I'm loving Eckstein, just as I have all year. That guy is a great fielder and knows how to hussle! He is always giving his very best. So what if he hasn't hit well in the postseason? His hits have been at clutch moments and have helped the Cardinals to stay alive.
And how about Molina? We all know he's an awesome catcher, but how about that home run in the seventh game of the NLCS? That guy is so awesome. I love his facial expressions. So what if he's a slow baserunner? You would probably be slow too if you had to crouch for three hours a day!
Um, Reyes? Talk about the game of his life. And I've always loved the personal touch he puts on his uniform. The ironed cap? Brilliant. And Lucia has been wearing her booties hiked up ever since.
I also have to put in Tony LaRussa. That guy is a great manager and largely responsible for the Cards' climb to the top in recent years. And he deserves a lot of respect for how he handled the Scott Rolen drama as well as the Roger Clemens issue. He never spoke a bad word about either one of those guys.
Ronnie Belliard's tongue. Okay, I'm not actually serious about this one, but somebody had to say it. Ronnie himself hasn't been hitting well in this series, but I'm always glad when his giant tongue makes an appearance on the field.
I'll be watching tonight...or, um, tomorrow.
