Congratulations, KC Royals!

I would like to take this moment to congratulate the Kansas City Royals.

Since the beginning of the baseball season (barely a month, I know), they have been consistenly the worst team in all of Major League Baseball. But as of yesterday, the winds have changed.

What has precipitated this event, you ask? Well, the Royals' fate was helped by the fact that they won their game yesterday (bringing their total to 5 wins, 14 losses), but what really dug them out of their hole was a little help from that team across I-70, the Cardinals.

As of yesterday, the Cardinals just swept the Pittsburgh Pirates in a three-game series, which drove the Pirates' winning percentage down to .217 (5 wins, 18 losses).

Cardinal fans, please join me in saying to our Missouri friends, the Royals, "Congratulations, and you're welcome."

I was certain that I posted here already. Maybe I clicked preview instead of post last time.

I said how I'd like to root for KC, but it's too sad to follow them. It must also be rough for Reggie and Mark to go from a 100-win team to the Royals. Now PIT will be the PITty of the baseball world.

Yeah, my craziness with the Royals stems from the fact that Joel is from KC, and he insists on being loyal to them even though he's lived in St. Louis for a few years now, and he's married to an insane Cardinals fan.

I'd love to see the Royals get better. They're a neat team--Mike Sweeney is a serious Catholic, and lots of the guys go to mass together on Sundays, even if they have a game that day.

And don't even start about Reggie. He was my favorite player...now I have to find a new guy. I've been thinking about Eckstein. Don't even talk about Pujols. It's too obvious and "touristy".

The thing that makes it even more awful for the Pirates is that the rest of the teams in their (our) division pretty much have their acts together...they're 11 games out of 1st, but Milwaukee's next, only 3 games out and they've won more games than they've lost. On the other hand, KC's 8 games out and the Twins aren't doing too much better at 5.5 games from first.

Anyway, it's totally the beginning of the season, so whatever, but I have to say that the Pirates are off to an unfortunate start.

"Don't even talk about Pujols. It's too obvious and 'touristy'."

That line cracked me up. Quite true my friend.

You know, one nice thing about LJ is that I get emails when someone replied to a comment of mine :-)

I'm keeping an Excel spreadsheet of the standings of the NL Central and graphing their progress throughout the year. You can bookmark that page and check it out whenever you want. I update it almost daily.

Cool! (about the spreadsheet)...

And about the email situation, we're working on it...Joel is revamping the website and we'll have that feature soon.

Don't let him see this article about a man who gave up on the Royals.
