The Speed of Smell

Last night, I woke up in the middle of the night with quite the revelation: the speed of smell. Yes, that's right. We've all heard of the speed of light. Scientists have also measured the speed of sound. But what about the speed of smell?

Okay, it sounded better at three in the morning. But the craziest part about it was that I thought that this concept was so novel that I woke up several times afterwards, repeating to myself each time: the speed of smell. Then I thought, what about the speed of taste? The speed of touch? No...smell! That has to be it! The speed of smell!

If anyone would like to conduct experiments on how fast smell travels—for example, in a vacuum using various smells such as freshly baked cookies, stale socks, or wet dog—just let me know. We could be famous! I want grade school kids to be memorizing this for science tests. The speed of smell!
