Merry Christmas! And an early Happy New Year. It's been awhile since I've posted anything, so I thought I'd come back today with a special treat.
This afternoon my good friend Andrew Schloss, Heather, Lucia and I were being silly and playing the guitar, making up songs as we went along. One song was about the word random, and it intimately relates my pet peeve about the popular meaning of "random."
The basic premise is this: random means "chosen without method or conscious decision." But I often hear it used to describe someone who's whimsical or spontaneous. I've always thought of random as being something that was unplanned, and most people who are "random" are really just quirky or impromptu.
I don't think I would want to be called random, because that's like saying I'm unplanned, or I am here for no rhyme or reason. Okay, maybe I'm taking this too deep, but, just listen to the song. It's definitely NOT philosophical — just fun. Kinda, random.
